"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed" - Dwight Eisenhower
Project 354: #40
When I began this adventure blog, I did wonder what I would write everyday. But there is always something that happens, or something to write about. Today's story is not something out of the ordinary if you live here, but if you live elsewhere in the world it could be interesting. Every now and again, due to ongoing construction in and around the city, excavators come across an undetonated WWII bomb! It can cause a large amount of disruption, as they can be quite unstable, so generally, depending on the size there is an evacuation of at least a 1 km radius while the detonation team goes to work until the all clear. It is usually covered by the daily newspapers (print and online versions) - this article was in the Hannoverische Allgemeine, and all residents are updated with maps, etc regarding the evacuation.
It does make me think again about the senselessness of war. It seems like such a waste of lives, money, homes, families, the list can go on and on. You would think that we would learn from past mistakes, yet the cycle just seems to repeat itself, driven by greed and power. There are so many countries facing war and civil unrest, displacing millions of people and turning their world's upside down...creating poverty, hunger, disease, impacting education and future generations. What is the point at the end of the day? I think I will go back to focusing on the nice things in life! Life is short, embrace it! Embrace peace, not war!
