"Modern technology has become a total phenomenon for civilization, the defining force of a new social order in which efficiency is no longer an option but a necessity imposed on all human activity" - Jacques Ellul
Project 365: #28
Well, when I woke up this morning, I was a little down. Mike had to come back to Germany for business this week, so spent the weekend at home. Well, some of the weekend, and left for work early on Monday morning, and was flying back to the US today. I usually track his flights via radar (probably not the wisest thing to do considering recent incidents), but anyway, it kind of keeps me in touch. His flight left Frankfurt at lunch time today, and I had to go to town this afternoon. On my way home on the tram I was wondering how far he was when my phone beeped with a message from him. At first I was rather anxious, wondering what on earth he was doing messaging me in-flight....when it turned out all was good and above board, I then enjoyed the next couple of hours of his Skynet experience with up to date pics from his monitor as to his progress! How absolutely awesome is modern technology!!!
I am so grateful for this opportunity, the weekend was so nice to touch base and catch up a bit, but it went too fast, with tonnes still needing discussion. So, Mike's fourteen euros was money well spent for his connection, and allowed us to message each other for almost three hours! Awesome! The far reaching implications of modern technology are almost unthinkable, but I do hope that it can be put to good communication use, and some of the ongoing international issues can be solved. (I know, always wishful thinking!) It does also mean that businesses will be expected to be much more efficient, with zero down-time expected....no more snoozing on the flight! Hopefully with all this technology, people will not forget good old-fashioned communication!
