Day 39: The glory of gardening

"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul" - Alfred Austin

Project 365: #39

Why is it that everything starts looking like you want it to just when you are leaving? It has taken me the last two years to work out how my garden grows, and it is looking stunning now with all the flowers starting to bloom. I have learnt how to prune and overwinter everything so it is awesome in spring...oh well! My gran always used to say that you must tend your garden, no matter if it belongs to you or not, as someone will always benefit from your efforts along the way! My garden has been my refuge and delight while living here. I have learnt to appreciate the seasonal cycles, learnt which flowers the butterflies love, which seeds the birds eat, which trees drops their leaves fastest in autumn (and made a mental note to avoid those in the future), where to find the shrews nest (per kind favour of Campbell who thinks they should live inside as real-live squeaky-toys), even the hedgehogs hidey-holes and favourite foraging grounds. I will miss the garden, but look forward to finding a new one to nurture my soul.
