Day 59: Aegidienkirche, Hannover

"Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace....Nothing good ever comes of violence" - Martin Luther

 Project 365: Day 59

I know that I have included this church before, but it almost haunts me. You can tangibly feel the suffering inflicted by wars within its walls. Also known as St Giles Church, it was originally built in 1347. Only the outer walls of the church survived heavy air bombardments during WWII in 1943.  This shell has been left as a memorial to WWII and victims of war and violence.

A glimpse of the cross through destruction, a good lesson to remain faithful, no matter what life throws at you!

The Bell of Peace presented by the Twin Town Hiroshima in 1985.

I wonder if this memorial is something that people look at, and think how terrible war is...or if it has a profound message of loss and futility, making them resolve to strive for peace, and live their lives accordingly, no matter what?
