Day 56: I want to ride my bicycle

“You know, bicycling isn't just a matter of balance," I said. "it's a matter of faith. You can keep upright only by moving forward. You have to have your eyes on the goal, not the ground. I'm going to call that the Bicyclist's Philosophy of Life” - Susan Vreeland,  Clara and Mr. Tiffany

Project 365: 56

This scene with all the bicycles pretty much typifies Germany in summer. I just love this bicycle with the crate in front and basket on the back. I like that so many people cycle here, and that it is relatively safe, there are cycle tracks everywhere, and helmets are only just becoming mandatory. There are men in suits, women in high-heels, moms with kiddy-carts, grannies and grandads, kids going to school, teeny-little kids with flags sticking up the back...basically everyone! It is good to see so many people exercising, even if they don't realise it. It clears the mind, and expands the lungs.  I also rather like the "Bicyclist's Philosophy of Life": have faith that if you keep upright and keep moving forward, as long as you keep pedaling, you won't fall off and you will reach that goal that you have your eyes on.
