"Students must have initiative; they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves - and be free." - Cesar Chavez
Project 365: #306
I have not been inspired to maintain Project 365 for a number of reasons:
- I will be sad when it is complete, as it has provided me with a focus
- I am not ungrateful for where we are or what we have, but am currently overwhelmed by the process
- I have not touched sides with all that has to happen on a daily basis
- When completed, it will mark a year in this adventure, and that will be hard to believe
Anyhoo...on with the adventure of the day. With the impending deadline of May 1 for college acceptance, and some colleges automatically ruled out because of their cost and our current circumstances...Mike and Caitlin embarked on a rushed, last minute visit to the University of Colorado in Boulder at the weekend. It was a useful exercise in that Mike and Caitlin had to spend confined time together...creating important, albeit under duress, father-daughter bonding time, with cramped aeroplane seats, hire-car dilemmas, and late nights! They also got to see the inside of the airports at Charlotte NJ, Denver CO, and Dallas, TX! I do know that there were some exasperating moments, based on texts flying in my direction from both parties...but it seemed to be a relatively successful outing. Although, I am not sure that we are actually any closer to making that final decision! There are just too many choices here...it is just so overwhelming! One thing I do know, is that students are students wherever they are...as can be seen by this statue at U Colorado fitted suitably with a new pair of shoes! Clearly students still think for themselves, and are not confined by the constraints of society! Hopefully ours will use their initiative too, and make the most of the new opportunities, learning to act and think for themselves, the future leaders of nations.
